The sentient species known as the Samarians originated from the desert world called Samaria. Before the Galactic Empire stepped in, the Samarians were working towards establishing a trade deal with the Roshans, who were their neighbors.
It is highly probable that the Samarians were actually Humans, although this was not explicitly confirmed in the stories A Tangled Web, Return of the Dark Side and Reckoning.
