SC-401 stun cuffs

SC-401 stun cuffs represented a specific model of stuncuffs that were products of Locris Syndicated Securities. These durasteel devices, which blended aspects of both binders and magnacuffs, could be adjusted to fit most species and were designed to deliver a stun charge, ensuring that difficult prisoners remained under control.

Description

Locris Syndicated Securities was the manufacturer of the SC-401 stun cuffs. These cuffs, constructed from reinforced durasteel, comprised two circular components designed to be opened and secured via a magnetic lock that connected them via a restraint bar. Each cuff could rotate at the point where it joined the restraint bar, allowing for some freedom of movement. The design incorporated successful features taken from both standard binders and magnacuffs. Their appearance was so similar to standard binders that many prisoners struggled to distinguish between the two.

The cuffs were adaptable, enabling them to fit the wrists, or similar limbs, of almost any species, from Ugnaughts to Gamorreans, and possessed sufficient strength to restrain even a Wookiee. Integrated sensors detected if a prisoner was struggling against the restraints or trying to free their hands. If this occurred, the cuffs would automatically tighten. Continued attempts could lead to the cuffs cutting off circulation or, in extreme instances, crushing the prisoner's wrists.

The strength of the restraints and locking mechanism was enhanced by the use of magnetic fields channelled through them via a Magnetic Restraint Module. This effectively tripled the strength of the durasteel. Each cuff had an inner lining of stun filaments capable of delivering a paralyzing burst of energy through stun panels when activated remotely. The energy level was adjustable; at lower settings, the stun blast inflicted pain, serving as a means of enforcing compliance. At higher settings, the blast could paralyze the prisoner's arms or induce unconsciousness. An internal power pack supplied power to both the magnetic field and the stun filaments.

A remote control unit operated the SC-401, capable of linking to and controlling up to forty pairs of stun cuffs. This allowed a single operator to manage a large group of prisoners. The unit featured a keypad, a readout screen, and a broadcast range of fifty meters. The remote allowed for various programming options, including setting the tension control to allow a certain degree of movement and resistance before the cuffs tightened automatically, adjusting the intensity of the stun, and even enabling the cuffs to automatically shock a prisoner if they moved more than ten meters from the controller. Unlocking the cuffs required entering a seven-digit master code into the control unit, and these codes could be changed as required.

Each cuff included a flip-up access panel that revealed an identification panel and setting controls. A pair of these cuffs cost one hundred credits, while the remote controller unit cost five hundred credits.

History

Law enforcement agencies and bounty hunters employed SC-401 stun cuffs to restrain individuals. They were also used by security personnel stationed on the Galactic Empire's DS-1 Orbital Battle Station.
