Scout lance

A scout lance, which can also be called a scout squad, represented a fundamental organizational unit within the Imperial Army structure.

Organization

In contrast to typical Imperial squads, lances were composed of a mere five soldiers: a sergeant in command of four scouts. This organizational divergence stemmed from a couple of key considerations: the considerable expense associated with scout training weighed against their elevated casualty rates, and the cultural backgrounds of most scouts, who originated from planets with deeply ingrained equestrian warrior customs, such as knights or cavalry. The Imperial Army integrated the customs and principles of these indigenous cultures into the lance's structure, notably the emphasis on individual vehicle maintenance. Consequently, scout troopers received training in servicing and repairing their own vehicles, thereby negating the requirement for support staff within the mobile unit.

Repulsorcraft manufactured by either Aratech or Mobquet were frequently used by lances. While the majority of lances operated with one-person speeder bikes, assigning one scout to each bike, certain squads opted for a configuration of one single-rider bike accompanied by a pair of two-person vehicles, or an All Terrain Recon Transport.
