Shaardan

Shaardan was a male [Human](link url) with aspirations of joining the [Sith Academy](link url) located on [Korriban](link url) during the tumultuous period of the [Jedi Civil War](link url). This individual, native to the [Legends](link url) continuity, engaged in acts of intimidation and public humiliation against the inhabitants of the local [Dreshdae](link url) settlement in [3956 BBY](link url).

Biography

Upon [Revan's](link url) arrival in Dreshdae, the Jedi encountered Shaardan, who was growing impatient with [Prospective Sith](link url) who were unable to answer his moral dilemmas correctly. Shaardan then inquired of Revan what form of punishment should be meted out to these "hopefuls." Revan persuaded Shaardan to release them. Eager to curry favor with [Master](link url) [Uthar Wynn](link url), Shaardan lay in wait for a different student to venture into the tomb of [Ajunta Pall](link url) and recover [Pall's sword](link url). Unfortunately for Shaardan, Revan was the student who successfully retrieved the blade. Shaardan confronted Revan near the entrance of [Pall's tomb](link url), intending to intimidate Revan into surrendering the weapon. However, Revan refused, and an enraged Shaardan attacked, only to be defeated and killed. Revan subsequently presented the sword to Master Wynn, earning prestige for himself.

Behind the scenes

First Encounter

Regarding the situation with Shaardan's "hopefuls," several courses of action are available.

Light Side options

The option to instruct Shaardan to release them aligns with the light side:

  • Failure to persuade him results in the death of the hopefuls. However, regardless of the outcome, the player earns light side points.
  • Threatening Shaardan with death if he refuses to release them elicits a response that such an attitude is befitting of a Sith.
  • If the player revisits Korriban following their capture on the [Leviathan](link url), they can assert their true identity, a claim that Shaardan initially dismisses with laughter but ultimately leads to the release of the hopefuls.
  • [Force Persuasion](link url) can be employed to compel Shaardan to release the hopefuls, revealing his weak will.

Non-alignment options

  • Choosing to humiliate or frighten the hopefuls results in Shaardan attacking them with [Force drain](link url), which scares them but spares their lives.

Dark Side options

Instructing Shaardan to kill the hopefuls is an option, which he readily carries out using [Force lightning](link url).

Paradoxically, even if the player opts to remain uninvolved, Shaardan releases the hopefuls, yet the player still receives dark side points due to the implication of leaving them at Shaardan's mercy.

Encounter in Ajunta Pall's tomb

Alternatively, Revan could present Shaardan with a counterfeit sword. Shaardan, unaware of its true appearance, would accept it. Upon presenting the false sword to Uthar Wynn, Shaardan would be [strangled](link url) for failing to recognize Revan's deception. Another possibility is for Revan to give Shaardan the real sword. It's worth noting that Shaardan engages Revan in combat using a [vibro double-blade](link url) instead of a lightsaber, despite being seen carrying a lightsaber at other times.

Revan is not required to recover Ajunta Pall's blade to impress Uthar sufficiently to proceed to Naga Sadow's Tomb, potentially avoiding a second encounter with Shaardan after their initial meeting upon Revan's arrival on the planet. In this scenario, Shaardan could remain within the Academy, now under the leadership of [Yuthura Ban](link url), or be killed as Revan eliminates the remaining Sith insurgents within the academy.
