Shanko's Hive, a place for drinking and eating, could be found on the interior level of the Borgo Prime spaceport, which was situated on an asteroid. This establishment was infamous for the disorderly conduct within its walls, the questionable characters it drew in, and the unique concoctions crafted by Shanko, the owner and resident mixologist.
This conical edifice, known as Shanko's Hive, rose at least a quarter kilometer above the inner floor of Borgo Prime, contained within its own force field. The exterior was a gray-green color and featured a corrugated surface. Access to the Hive required payment.
Upon entering, a visitor would immediately be struck by the sight of Shanko and the revolting stench of burning materials, occasionally including patrons. The tumultuous environment, a hallmark of Shanko's Hive's clientele, was amplified by a cacophony of sounds – music or noise, depending on perspective – produced by at least six bands performing simultaneously. Staircases ran along the Hive's grooved walls, providing access to gambling dens and accommodations on the higher floors.
Patrons of Shanko's Hive could participate in a range of pastimes, from imbibing and dancing to engaging in conversation, blaster fights, or a casual round of rocket darts. While disruptive behavior was generally overlooked, those unable to cover the costs of their misdeeds were forcibly removed from the Hive by imposing bouncer droids.
Arguably, Shanko's Hive's most significant attraction was not Shanko's beverages, but its varied clientele, particularly those involved in criminal enterprises. The Hive served as a hub for information traders, smugglers, and others involved in illegal pursuits. Shanko held these individuals in high regard, as their presence significantly increased the number of paying customers beyond what it would have been had he not permitted their presence.
