Showdown on unidentified forested planet

A crucial confrontation unfolded in the year 19 BBY on a world covered in forests. This battle pitted the forces of the Galactic Empire against those of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, all in pursuit of the carbonite encased smuggler Han Solo. Boba Fett, a notorious bounty hunter, was transporting Solo to the Empire when the conflict erupted. Ultimately, the Rebels emerged victorious, while the Empire suffered defeat, and Fett was presumed dead during the fighting.

Prelude

The events of 4 ABY saw an attempt to liberate the carbonite frozen smuggler Han Solo from the grasp of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt. Jabba's palace was situated on Tatooine. During this period, Princess Leia Organa, cleverly disguised as the deceased bounty hunter Boushh, infiltrated the palace alongside the Wookiee Chewbacca, hoping to earn the Hutt's confidence. In the course of their meeting, the protocol droid C-3PO played a crucial role in translating between Jabba's native Huttese and "Boushh"'s Ubese.

As Jabba and Leia negotiated the reward for Chewbacca, Jabba became enraged by Leia's demands and struck C-3PO, causing his head to detach. This left Jabba and "Boushh" unable to communicate. Without a translator and forced to reveal her true identity to Jabba's criminal court, Leia threatened to detonate a thermal detonator unless Jabba agreed to release Solo. However, Boba Fett moved to draw his weapon, prompting the disguised Lando Calrissian to intervene. Despite this, Fett managed to fire his weapon, hitting Leia's elbow and causing her to accidentally activate the detonator.

Amidst the chaos as Jabba's court fled for their lives, Fett seized the opportunity to escape with the frozen Solo. With Jabba no longer having any use for him, Fett intended to deliver the smuggler to the Galactic Empire. He departed Tatooine aboard his ship, the Slave I. Shortly after, the palace was destroyed in an explosion, resulting in the destruction of C3-PO and the deaths of numerous individuals, including Jabba and his majordomo Bib Fortuna. However, Leia, Chewbacca, and Lando successfully escaped.

The battle

Leia and her Rebel companions, excluding her brother, the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, who had journeyed to Dagobah to meet with the Jedi Master Yoda, had already made their way to the forested planet. It was here that Fett planned to hand Solo over to an Imperial officer and his stormtroopers, intending to use him as bait to lure in his Rebel friends and eliminate them once and for all. Upon realizing that Han was not present, Leia deduced that he must be confined within the Slave I. Just as the Imperial officer was heading to his ship, Leia fired a shot near his men, causing them to arm themselves and search for the sniper. As Fett questioned Leia's belief that she could defeat them alone, Leia revealed that she was not alone, supported by the arrival of the Millennium Falcon, commanded by Calrissian.

Immediately, Fett activated his jetpack and ascended to the top of the Falcon to plant a bomb. However, the Falcon retaliated by destroying the Imperial ships, killing the Imperials in the process. When Organa spotted Fett on the Falcon's roof, she attempted to shoot him down but failed. She then warned Lando and Chewbacca, leading the former to violently shake the Falcon, causing Fett to fall along with his bomb. The bomb detonated near him, sending him flying towards the landing platform. Although Leia acknowledged that he might have faked his death to lure them in, Lando stated that if he was faking his death, it was the most convincing performance he had ever witnessed.

Following Fett's apparent defeat, Leia boarded the Slave I and departed from the planet, while Lando and Chewbacca followed her in the Millennium Falcon to the Home One to finally unfreeze Han.

Aftermath

During the conflict, Solo's carbonite block sustained damage, either from the Imperials or accidentally by the Rebels. Once aboard the Home One, the doctor responsible for thawing Han warned Leia that the extended period of hibernation and the damage to the carbonite unit's controls would likely have severe consequences, potentially blinding Han for life. However, he also mentioned that there was still a slight chance that he could regain his eyesight, albeit minimal. Subsequently, the Rebels, led by Mon Mothma and Admiral Gial Ackbar, prepared to confront what could be their most formidable challenge yet: the Battle of Endor.
