Simon Jabesq

Simon Jabesq held the position of chief engineer within Naboo's Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps, a role he occupied in the years leading up to the Battle of Naboo which occurred in 32 BBY. During this time, Jabesq could be found working in the hangar of the Theed Royal Palace on the planet Naboo, identifiable by his helmet which displayed his given name in the Futhork alphabet. He shared a surname with Bernie Jabesq, who was also affiliated with the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps around the same period.

Behind the scenes

Simon Jabesq's helmet from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace: The Expanded Visual Dictionary

Jabesq's character was originally conceived for Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, a 1999 publication authored by David West Reynolds. While the caption accompanying the image of Jabesq's helmet in that reference book indicated that the name "Jabesq" was inscribed on it, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia from 2008 provided a transliteration key for the Futhork alphabet, revealing that the helmet actually displayed the name "Simon." This same encyclopedia also confirmed "Simon" as Jabesq's first name. The 2012 reference work, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace: The Expanded Visual Dictionary, later republished the original caption from Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, but with a correction to accurately reflect Jabesq's complete name.
