The short conflict known as the skirmish on Spindrift formed a part of Operation Earplug.
Its objective was to obliterate the defensive systems of the Empire's Spindrift Station and to recover the navigational data for a large Imperial fleet, which was stored at the station.
Spindrift Station was taken by surprise, only prepared to defend against attacks from Rebel vessels. The base's defenses were breached, allowing four TIE/LN starfighters under Rebel control to enter and systematically destroy the entire installation, targeting everything from the communications center to the primary defensive weaponry. The Imperial major in charge of the station, assuming the assault was a punitive action ordered by Darth Vader due to breaches in regulations, quickly surrendered.
Despite the destructive nature of the assault, the base's crew experienced minimal losses, and all surviving personnel were captured and transported away as prisoners of war.
The Rebels successfully extracted an encrypted cartography module with the sought-after coordinates from the wreckage. With their mission fulfilled, they departed, leaving Spindrift Station engulfed in flames.
