Soterios

Soterios, situated within the Melantha Province of the Tapani sector, was a parched planet. The majority of its surface consisted of sweeping, windy canyons and broad, barren wastelands. Settlements were sparse, and the native plant and animal life had been eradicated by species brought in from other parts of the galaxy.

Description

This ash-colored planet, Soterios, followed a close orbit around its single star. As a terrestrial world, it possessed a breathable atmosphere alongside a hot and arid climate. The landscape was predominantly dry, featuring extensive desert wastelands and wind-carved canyons, with the remaining areas composed of shallow, salty seas. Despite a small amount of ammonia, these seas teemed with an array of unique species.

The economy of Soterios was primarily sustained by off-world activities. House Melantha held governance over the world, generating revenue through companies headquartered in the Core Worlds. Soterios functioned by providing credits through loans and earning income from interest. Furthermore, the planet attracted businesses from outside the sector with appealing profit-sharing schemes and affordable leases on desert terrain.

Locations

The cities of Soterios, including its primary city, Melaana, were established within canyon basins, remnants of former oceans. These settlements were linked by dried-up riverbed canyons, repurposed as a highway system for landspeeders and airspeeders. The intricate network of loops and cul-de-sacs rendered navigation nearly impossible for outsiders without local assistance. The terrain lent itself well to several speeder road rallies, which took place every year. The cities boasted vibrant theater districts, music venues, museums, and various other cultural attractions. Soterios also hosted a lively professional sports scene, enjoyed by both the nobility of House Melantha and the general populace.

Inhabitants

Soterios was home to 6.7 billion residents, including Humans and numerous other species originating from the Core Worlds. The planet's culture had largely adopted influences from the Core, particularly Coruscant. The HoloNet media held a prominent position in the social sphere, serving as a source of information, a public voice, and an educational resource for the locals.
