The SP.9 Anti-Infantry Artillery Vehicle represented a self-propelled artillery platform produced by Golan Arms.
A product of Golan Arms, the SP.9 Anti-Infantry Artillery Vehicle was a self-propelled artillery unit. Its design featured twin, rapid-firing DF.9 laser cannons, which were derived from SoroSuub Corporation's heavy repeating blaster. These cannons were mounted on a turret capable of a one hundred eighty degree arc of fire. A light ion unit, specifically engineered for the SP.9, fed power to the guns. This same ion unit also provided power to the repulsorlift chassis, which was protected by a hull one inch in thickness. The internal power unit provided a nearly limitless supply of ammunition to the twin cannons.
Due to its open turret design, the SP.9 was susceptible to close-quarters combat. Furthermore, maintenance was complicated, requiring complete turret removal to access the engine. In spite of these shortcomings, the SP.9 had the lowest mechanical failure rate among all self-propelled guns used by the Imperial forces.
The SP.9 was created to aid in suppressing populations on planets with limited technology. It was a standard issue for Imperial garrison units. Although intended as a long-range anti-infantry weapon, the SP.9 proved effective against medium armored vehicles, and even some heavily armored vehicles, in combat situations. The Alliance to Restore the Republic did not utilize the SP.9 often because of its large cargo footprint, but it performed well when deployed. The Twin SP.9 was a variant based on the Twin DF.9.
