A space barge Space barges functioned as intra-system starships, transporting freight among orbital stations, hyperspace-capable freighters, and planetary spaceports. These vessels were designed for short-distance travel, typically lacking a hyperdrive but incorporating robust sublight drives and substantial cargo holds. A typical space barge crew consisted of three individuals: one pilot, a co-pilot, and a fifth-degree labor droid. Due to operating in well-defended, populated systems, barges were commonly unarmed and featured minimal deflector shields.
The X-23 StarWorker produced by the Incom Corporation represents an example of an intra-system space barge.
