Space denial

Space denial represented a strategic and tactical approach employed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during its initial phases and following the Battles of Yavin and Endor.

Characteristics

The Rebellion utilized space denial as a method to impede the unhindered movement of Imperial forces in weakly defended Imperial territories; its purpose was never territorial conquest. The core of this strategy involved small starfighter units, often at the squadron level, operating from concealed bases near known Imperial supply lines, executing rapid attacks and harassing convoys. Ideally, the strategic aim was to eliminate opportune targets and compel the Empire to redeploy forces from well-defended sectors, thereby weakening overall Imperial naval capabilities.

History

Given the high costs of maintaining starfighters and the Alliance's limited resources compared to the Empire, space denial was the sole feasible method for challenging Imperial dominance in space. Consequently, it saw extensive use during the Rebellion's early stages and persisted even after the Battle of Endor. Despite the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, and the destruction of the second Death Star, the Alliance's resource constraints meant that space denial remained a potent strategy against the remaining Imperial forces.
