SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back


SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back is a documentary from 1980 that explores the production of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

The documentary was originally aired on WBBM-TV, a television station in Chicago, on September 22 of 1980.

Magnetic Video initially released it on Laserdisc as a video exclusive in 1981. Subsequently, in the following year, 20th Century Fox Video distributed it on VHS, Betamax, CED, and Laserdisc. This release was part of a double feature alongside the 1977 film The Making of Star Wars. Later, it was re-released as a triple feature that included The Making of Star Wars and the 1983 special Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi. Furthermore, the documentary was featured in the Star Wars saga Blu-ray collection that was launched in 2011.
