The Star Wars Corporation (SWC) came into existence in 1973, established by George Lucas. This entity functioned as a subsidiary of Lucasfilm Ltd., his production company, with the specific goal of managing the legal and financial facets associated with his 1977 film, Star Wars. This included oversight of copyright matters, as well as rights pertaining to sequels and merchandising. By the year 1980, the corporation had ceased operations, and its functions were integrated into the different operational units of its parent company, Lucasfilm Ltd.
One can still observe the corporation's title on particular Star Wars products, for instance, in the copyright notice displayed at the conclusion of the movie itself. It also appears in republished editions of Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker and Splinter of the Mind's Eye, because the copyrights are still valid or have not been updated.
