Star Wars Technical Journal of the Imperial Forces, also known as Star Wars Technical Journal Vol. 2, represented the second installment among the three volumes composing The Official Star Wars Technical Journal magazine series, which originated from Starlog Communications International, Inc.. Its initial publication occurred in July of 1994. These three individual publications were subsequently collected and released as a single volume under the title Star Wars Technical Journal.
In 1996, Starlog commemorated the then-forthcoming premiere of The Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition by re-releasing all three Technical Journal volumes as "Special Edition" versions. Each Special Edition volume was packaged in a sealed plastic bag, accompanied by supplementary material in the form of an eight-page fold-out insert.
A German-translated edition was additionally distributed in 1996 by Modern Graphics Distribution.
