The Star Wars Trilogy, specifically the initial DVD release, featured the original trilogy.
This collection became available in September of 2004, aligning with the launch of the video game Star Wars: Battlefront.
This set contained the following:
- Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
- Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi
- Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy, a documentary and several featurettes, including: The Characters of Star Wars The Birth of the Lightsaber The Force Is With Them: The Legacy of Star Wars
- A behind-the-scenes preview of Episode III titled: The Return of Darth Vader
- A playable demo and trailer for Star Wars Battlefront
- A preview of the making of Star Wars: Episode III
- A Production Gallery
- Posters and Print Campaigns
- Trailers and TV Spots
The DVD versions of the movies were based upon the 1997 Special Edition versions, which incorporated additional changes and revisions.
Lucasfilm generated fresh high-definition masters of all three films for this particular release, alongside an intensive high-definition restoration and remastering process handled by Lowry Digital, and multiple modifications to ensure consistency with the prequel trilogy.
George Lucas mentioned in a CNN interview that the DVD release was originally planned for 2007, but the date was moved forward due to concerns regarding piracy impacting sales.
On the bonus material DVD of this collection, there's a hidden blooper reel. Access it by navigating to "Video Games and Still Galleries", highlighting "Exclusive Production Photos", and then entering the following sequence on your remote: 11, enter, 3, enter, 8, enter.
If using Power Media Player on a PC, you can activate it by playing a video, right-clicking on the screen, selecting "Go to", and then choosing Title 38, Chapter 1.
