Stellan existed as a planet in the Outer Rim Territories, specifically within the Hunnoverrs sector. It served as the homeworld for the Stellan species, a group whose civilization operated under a theocracy. The religious doctrines of the Stellan dictated that any member of their species considered excessively violent or a threat to their societal structure would be exiled from the planet. These individuals were launched into the planet's orbit aboard designated transport vessels.
As a result, pirates and enslavers originating from Rodia and Tatooine made frequent trips to Stellan's star system. Their purpose was to either rob or capture the exiled native Stellan. One such Stellan exile was Jeigh Esse, who, instead of succumbing to capture, integrated into a Rodian clan and became a bounty hunter.
Found deep within the Hunnoverrs sector of the Outer Rim Territories, in a region known as the Slice, Stellan was a terrestrial planet residing in the Stellan system.

Stellan maintained a reclusive and intensely isolationist stance, having severed virtually all ties with the broader galaxy. Over decades, pirates and enslavers from the neighboring worlds of Rodia and Tatooine routinely visited Stellan's orbit. Their objective was to plunder from or capture members of the native Stellan species, who had been exiled by the planet's governing theocracy and cast into space aboard migration transports.
Notably, Jeigh Esse, a sociopathic Stellan teenager who had orchestrated the exile of numerous other Stellan children by falsely accusing them of wrongdoing—resulting in their banishment from their homeworld—eventually faced the same fate, a decision met with universal approval on Stellan. As she was launched into space, the young girl mocked her exile, prophesizing that Stellan's society would one day succumb to the allure of the local deity known as the Vain Goddess and be consumed by fire.
While in Stellan's orbit, the vessel carrying Esse was boarded by Rodian mercenaries, revealing to her the fate of other Stellan exiles. However, she resisted her would-be captors and was eventually welcomed into the Rodian Chattza Clan, ultimately becoming a formidable galactic bounty hunter.
The sentient Stellan species called Stellan home. Their society adhered to a monastic lifestyle and was governed by a theocratic priest-king. Stellan religious beliefs held that succumbing to the temptations of the Vain Goddess, which incited individuals to bloodshed, would result in the loss of Stellan's soul.
To safeguard the moral integrity of Stellan society and prevent such a catastrophe, all Stellan children underwent rigorous screening at a young age. Those deemed a potential threat to this purity were declared ter-Stellan, or "Exiled Ones," along with criminals, individuals with mental disabilities considered dangerous, and those with overly aggressive tendencies. The ter-Stellan were then launched into Stellan's orbit aboard transport vessels, their fate left to the will of the Force.
Stellan was first featured in the StarWars.com article "The Not-So Magnificent Seven," penned by Greg Mitchell and published on September 4, 2013. The reference book The Essential Atlas from 2009 located the Stellan system, and consequently the planet, in grid square R-16.
