Sublight engine

The Millennium Falcon utilizes sublight engines for propulsion. A sublight engine, alternatively called a sublight drive, served as a crucial starship component. Its function was to propel ships through realspace at velocities below the speed of light. The ion engine stood out as the most prevalent type of sublight drive. The TIE fighter employed a pair of these engines to achieve its remarkable speeds.

Substantial speeds were commonly attained through the use of sublight drives, often reaching a significant percentage of light speed. A freighter-class vessel, when powered by a sublight drive, could escape a planet's atmosphere and gravity well in mere minutes.

Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc. was the manufacturer of the most ubiquitous sublight drive. It was integrated into a wide array of vessels, spanning from the T-16 skyhopper to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Furthermore, Durafly also engaged in the production of sublight drives.
