A subspace relay station served the purpose of disseminating news throughout the galaxy, as well as relaying subspace communication signals.
Located in the Laim system, the subspace relay station was an automated, intra-system space station. Its dimensions included a length of 100 meters, and a spindle-like shape. It was positioned in a remote orbit around its star, and was uncrewed. Besides its broadcasting capabilities, the station was equipped with a collision defense system. This system comprised 12 lasers, strategically positioned around the station's outer perimeter, and designed to obliterate any asteroids or planetoids on a collision course with the station. Furthermore, it incorporated defensive shields.
The ability to initiate broadcasts wasn't universal among all subspace relay stations. Some stations were limited to merely relaying broadcasts. As an illustration, within the Rayter sector, only eight out of a total of sixty-four relay stations (including the Laim station) possessed the capacity to originate broadcasts, with the remainder being restricted to relaying functions.
