Taf was a captive Mantellian Savrip who was subjected to slavery.
A Chevin enslaver called The Mon took Taf, along with his fellow Savrips Clu and Mev, as prisoners. These Savrips were transported to The Mon's slave zoo located on the Animiasma, where they were confined to the same holding cell. Their spirits unbroken, the Savrips desired to locate and inflict harm upon the Mon more than they desired to flee.
Despite their reluctance to engage with individuals beyond their cell, the Savrips observed four Tarasin young ones, Li'Iri, Honna, Tiscak and Kaj, being held in a nearby cell. Honna used her Force-based abilities to communicate with the Savrips and comprehend their language. Moved by compassion for the children, the Savrips pledged to safeguard them: if anyone attempted to abduct the children against their will, the Savrips would risk breaching the energy field of their cell to thwart the wrongdoers. Honna felt relieved that this situation did not arise, as the energy field had the potential to injure or even fatally harm the Savrips.
Near the heart of each of his enslaved individuals, Phylus Mon surgically implanted an explosive device. This explosive was designed to detonate upon Phylus Mon's demise, but it also could be disabled through the impact of an ion weapon. Furthermore, all the slaves held within Phylus Mon's zoo were routinely subjected to physical abuse.
