Class

Where does the information come from that identifies this ship as an Interdictor-class Star Destroyer? Does the book not identify it as a cruiser? --Modgamers 21:57, April 13, 2012 (UTC)

  • I changed the article to reflect it being an Interdictor-class Star Destroyer because an anonymous user made that change on the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer article, and I presumed their information was correct. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion ( talk ) 22:07, April 13, 2012 (UTC) Unfortunately, it appears that it's not a new Star Destroyer, but instead an older interdictor cruiser. --Modgamers 22:08, April 13, 2012 (UTC) How would I know otherwise? It seemed reasonable at the time, and no one has challenged my edit until now. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 22:15, April 13, 2012 (UTC) Never place your trust in IPs, and always verify sources yourself ;) This is especially true when dealing with an Interdictor-Star Destroyer. Many individuals struggle with the fact that two ship classes share the same prefix. --Modgamers 22:21, April 13, 2012 (UTC) That is precisely why my belief is that the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer is essentially the same as the Dominator-class Star Destroyer, the Imperial-class Super Star Destroyer is the same as the Allegiance-class Star Battlecruiser (Fractalsponge's Allegiance-class), and the Republic-class cruiser is equivalent to the Republic-class Star Destroyer, but official sources rarely address these sorts of issues. Regarding the Interdicotr-class SD and Dominator-class SD (as well as Allegiance etc.), the key point is that the Dominator is simply the first ship that we are aware of, or rather, the first one to appear to us and be named. This does not necessarily imply that it is the first ship of its class (remember, there is an Interdictor in Vader's Quest, which takes place 4 years before we encounter the Dominator). We lack certainty as to whether we can apply our "earth" ship-naming conventions in the SW-Universe (or more accurately, the Anglo-American naming convention; for example, we Germans tend to use numerical designations for our submarine and destroyer classes, such as Typ 36 A, and refer to them as a type rather than a class). To illustrate, the first ship of the Imperator-class was the Executrix, not a ship named Imperator. Furthermore, the class can be renamed. Therefore, I generally favor using the more official designations for these ship classes (Interdictor-class SD was initially used in the Fact File and is now reused in the EGtW, which I am happy with), rather than relying on these fanon names created by Curtis Saxton, which, as I mentioned above, could be inaccurate. --Modgamers 07:42, April 14, 2012 (UTC)
