Concerning Protobesh Translation and its Potential Merger with Coremaic

I managed to translate a significant portion of the Protobesh seen in The Rise of Skywalker through a series of posts on Twitter. This allowed me to confidently produce a translation key.

However, I am uncertain about the proper method of citing this work. While my translations align with the source material, they aren't officially recognized. Could they be included as supplementary behind-the-scenes information, at the very least? As a newcomer to Wookieepedia, I would appreciate some guidance on this matter.

Additionally, it is evident that certain text identified as "Protobesh" utilizes the same alphabet as text labelled as "Coremaic." Given that they appear to share a writing system, I propose merging the two pages, even if they are considered distinct languages within the canon. AurekFonts (talk) 19:31, July 31, 2020 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately, we cannot include this type of content on the site. Even if accurate, it is considered fan-created material. While I acknowledge the visual similarities between Protobesh and Coremaic, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary explicitly describes them as separate writing systems. It is conceivable that they employ the same script for different languages, similar to Latin and English. VergenceScatter ( talk ) 19:35, July 31, 2020 (UTC) I suspected that might be the case. Thank you for clarifying. Would linking to a fan-made Protobesh font be acceptable, similar to the four Aurebesh fonts listed on the Aurebesh page? AurekFonts (talk) 20:46, July 31, 2020 (UTC) I see no reason why that would be an issue.VergenceScatter (talk) 23:11, July 31, 2020 (UTC) That would not be appropriate, specifically because it is an unofficial creation made by a fan. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:30, August 1, 2020 (UTC) Could you explain why they are acceptable on the Aurebesh page, then? Are there plans to remove the links to the five unofficial, fan-made fonts currently featured there? (I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm simply trying to understand the basis for this exception).AurekFonts (talk) 23:04, August 1, 2020 (UTC) You're not being confrontational at all, so no worries. That is actually a very valid point. The answer is that they also should not be on that page (it appears they were originally copied from Aurebesh/Legends). I am unsure who added them or when, but they are not appropriate for our articles. I will proceed with removing them. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 23:15, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
