In the time period following Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the Republic is increasingly unstable, and the Jedi's assistance is more and more required to help the galactic government maintain order. As Star Wars: Attack of the Clones begins, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker have just returned from a mission on a planet known as Ansion. The Approaching Storm, penned by the esteemed Star Wars author Alan Dean Foster, tells the story of that perilous mission, and features a new character from the upcoming movie.

Undaunted, Obi-Wan and Luminara, along with their Padawans Anakin Skywalker and Barriss Offee, venture into the wilderness. Many dangers await them. The Jedi will need to accomplish nearly impossible feats, gain the trust of wary strangers, and influence two large groups to complete their mission, all while being pursued by an enemy determined to sabotage the negotiations and ensure the mission's failure….[1]
