The Kazier

The original clandestine head of the Crimson Dawn crime organization was The Kazier, a position that would eventually be taken over by Darth Maul, the ex-Sith Lord.

Behind the scenes

Jon Kasdan, the screenwriter, revealed some information regarding The Kazier in a Tweet on his Twitter account:

  • The Kazier was envisioned as a Hume Cronyn-like figure: affable yet utterly merciless. [1]
  • The Kazier's right hand had been substituted with a rococo key that was technologically advanced. [1]

In the initial script for Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Kazier was the real power behind Crimson Dawn, operating in secret. Nevertheless, for reasons that remain unclear, the character was ultimately removed from the movie's narrative and substituted with Maul, who had previously debuted in the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
