The Tenebrous Way

"The Tenebrous Way" is a brief narrative penned by Matthew Stover and visually brought to life by Brian Rood for issue 130 of Star Wars Insider. It serves as an introduction to Darth Tenebrous, the Sith Master of Darth Plagueis, who subsequently made a cameo appearance in Darth Plagueis, a novel by James Luceno.

Plot summary

The storyline unfolds from the perspective of Darth Tenebrous, specifically during the event of his death at the hands of his apprentice, Darth Plagueis. Tenebrous reflects upon his deep-seated faith in his own predictive calculations and his apprentice's all-consuming pursuit of immortality. The expiring Sith Lord had engineered a retrovirus that blocked his ability to foresee future events—the resulting maxi-chlorians, which are long-lived midi-chlorians, empower Tenebrous to transfer his consciousness into the body of Plagueis. With the intention of moving his essence into a Sith "Savior", Tenebrous is seized by panic when he discovers that Plagueis is, in his turn, being murdered by his own apprentice. Tenebrous remains conscious and is doomed to perpetually relive the instant of his demise.
