The Thicket represented a field of wreckage orbiting the planet Iego. Within this debris, the LaserWeb Defense Station, a relic of the Clone Wars, remained after being left behind by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Circa 21 BBY, Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi journeyed to the planet Iego seeking Reeksa root, a critical component for creating an antidote to the deadly Blue Shadow Virus. They found themselves unable to depart from the planet due to the presence of the LaserWeb Defense Station. This station was abandoned around the planet by the Separatists when they withdrew from the world. The inhabitants of Iego believed that the LaserWeb was the deity known as Drol. Skywalker and Kenobi were compelled to dismantle the laser grid to facilitate their return to Naboo with the Reeksa root. Their mission was successful, and they destroyed enough of the LaserWeb to allow their departure, along with any other individuals who desired to leave the planet.
Subsequently, following the Senate hostage crisis, Jaybo Hood summoned Skywalker and Kenobi back to Iego to investigate potential Separatist activity within the Thicket, a specific region of the debris field surrounding Iego. When the Jedi dispatched two V-19 Torrent starfighters, each with a pilot, into the Thicket to scout for Separatist presence, one of the fighters was obliterated by a remotely controlled probe. This probe had been reprogrammed by the IG-86 sentinel droid HELIOS-3D. The second fighter was destroyed by the reactivated LaserWeb Defense Station.
