Tiran, a renowned scientist from Drall, existed more than ten thousand years prior to the establishment of the Galactic Republic in 25,053 BBY. He is known for formulating the Theory of Universal Reference, which he substantiated with two key principles: the initial assertion being the interconnectedness of time and space, and the subsequent assertion being the impossibility of objects achieving light speed. This groundbreaking work brought galactic recognition to Tiran. However, it was eventually demonstrated that while reaching light speed was impossible, surpassing it was achievable, which paved the way for the invention of the hyperdrive.
The character of Tiran initially appeared in MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, a novel published in 2004 and authored by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.
