The Towani family consisted of Human individuals who experienced a crash landing on Endor around 3 ABY within the Imperial Era. While they were stranded, the Gorax abducted the parents, but the children, aided by the Ewoks, successfully rescued them. As their departure neared, Bright Tree Village was attacked by a band of Sanyassan Marauders, resulting in numerous deaths and the capture of the remaining villagers. Cindel was the sole survivor from the Towani family.
Within the Legends continuity, the two Ewok movies are set before the Battle of Endor. However, Tom Smith, the producer of Caravan of Courage, stated that this wasn't always the original plan. Positioning the Ewok films after Return of the Jedi provides a possible explanation for why Wicket Wystri Warrick, who had learned to speak some Basic by the time of The Battle for Endor, couldn't comprehend Princess Leia.
