Tracker droid

A tracker droid belonging to Kyle Katarn is seen affixed to 8t88's leg. A Tracker droid represented a specific model within the Seeker droid category. These droids were designed to be affixed to, or placed upon, a target that was in motion. Once attached, the droid would broadcast the target's real-time location. They were intentionally built small and possessed the capacity for autonomous movement.

Certain tracker droids took on the form of animals, possessed independent locomotion, and transmitted an auditory signal to the user (through a comm unit) that varied based on proximity to the target. The frequency and loudness of clicking sounds would elevate as the user drew closer, and become a continuous tone upon reaching the target.

History

Around 5 Aby, Kyle Katarn had a tracker droid that was shaped like a scorpion. He deployed it during an encounter with 8t88 at Rimmer's Rest. Unnoticed, the droid quickly moved and attached itself to the droid's leg. Following their unpleasant interaction, Katarn managed to escape 88's trap, and then utilized a comm unit to monitor the droid's auditory signal, which guided him in the correct direction to follow 88.

En route to Launch Deck Three, 88's bodyguard, Grentho, detected the tracker droid and attempted to remove it. Despite initial resistance, the droid detached itself and tried to flee, but Grentho managed to seize it with his large fingers, subsequently informing 88. Realizing that Katarn was pursuing them, 88 instructed Grentho to immediately destroy the droid. The droid emitted a squealing sound as Grentho crushed it, which coincided with Katarn's arrival.
