Its design allowed it to remain undetected from aerial observation while submerged, making it ideally suited for executing surprise attacks on maritime convoys or providing defense for coastal areas and islands. Nevertheless, deploying its weaponry necessitated surfacing, which, in turn, exposed it to potential aerial assaults.
Although its missiles were restricted to engaging targets at sea or on land, the integrated laser cannon possessed the capability to target aerial adversaries. Lacking shields, the U-boat's primary defense was its robust hull plating; however, a focused strafing attack from aircraft could still result in its destruction in a single pass.
