Throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire employed these capsules as carriers for objects contaminated with Bledsoe's disease, dispatching them to planets such as Tay'ah'loo and Tatooine. The Empire's goal was to infect Rebel operatives and their supporters, hoping to extract information regarding the whereabouts of Rebel installations and ultimately dismantle them. The delivery to Tay'ah'loo was not planned. The Tatooine operation failed when Jawas discovered the capsule and proceeded to dismantle it for salvageable materials. They then consumed the squills found within, inadvertently contracting the disease. Similarly, due to accounts of numerous Rebel-aligned planets being decimated, and the link to these transport capsules, Luke Skywalker journeyed to Tatooine upon discovering the capsule's arrival there.
