The Turbolaser System I represented a robust class of heavy turbolaser batteries, produced by the renowned Loronar Corporation.
The System I turbolaser was essentially a solitary, high-powered turbolaser installation, equipped with its own autonomous systems for calculating range and acquiring targets. Typically deployed on planetary surfaces, these System Is were protected by a durable permacite shell and received their energy from a boron fission reactor. It was common practice to connect a single reactor to multiple System I units, linking them via subterranean passages or a network of residential modules. These interconnected groups of turbolasers were frequently called "hives."
A significant weakness of the System I was its poorly designed coolant restrictor circuits, which led to frequent overheating issues. Despite being designed to fire twenty shots in quick succession, the faulty restrictors would usually force the weapon to shut down after only five or six shots. Gunners were required to carefully monitor the weapon's temperature gauge to prevent overheating; a task often neglected by less experienced personnel, leading to predictable failures. The duration for which an overheated weapon would be unusable varied based on the surrounding environmental conditions.
