Unidentified duck individual

A character resembling a duck appeared on Rion during the year 0 ABY. After the planet suffered a catastrophic event at the hands of the Galactic Empire utilizing the Ionic Ring Ship, which transformed the world into an icy planet and resulted in a food shortage for the inhabitants, the feathered creature joined a group of disgruntled locals demanding sustenance. This duck-like character later informed Tana, who managed a local establishment, about the impending arrest of the fugitive Mira Volz by a contingent of Imperial stormtroopers. Because of the duck's warning, Volz successfully fled.

Biography

The space duck, running to warn Tana

A being reminiscent of a duck frequented Tana's Resort, a recreational facility managed by the human female Tana on the planet Rion. In time, the Galactic Empire commandeered the Ionic Ring Ship, the invention of the notable Renn Volz, which contained technology capable of altering a planet's climate. The Empire intended to use the ship against worlds with a Rebel Alliance presence, and Rion was selected as the initial target. The Ionic Ring wreaked havoc on the once-tropical planet, transforming it into an ice-covered world and freezing the planet's food reserves. This led Rion's inhabitants, including the duck-billed being, into a state of desperation. The Empire subsequently demanded the apprehension of all Rebels on the planet, dispatching stormtroopers to enforce this order.

The Rebel smuggler Han Solo arrived on Rion aboard his ship, the Millennium Falcon, accompanied by a passenger: Mira Volz, the daughter of Renn Volz, who had been evading the Empire since her father's capture. Upon the Falcon's arrival, the feathered individual, along with other resort patrons, swarmed the ship, pleading for food and lamenting their dire situation. Solo was directed to Tana, who was located within her resort. The duck-like being followed Solo and Volz into the resort, encountering other aliens.

However, the Empire was closing in on Volz. The duck-like individual soon departed the resort, and while outside, overheard another local informing a squad of stormtroopers that Volz was inside the resort. The billed being rushed back to Tana, warning her of the approaching stormtroopers. Thanks to the duck's warning, Tana was able to assist Solo and Volz in their escape.

Personality and traits

The duck-like being demonstrated loyalty to Tana, readily alerting her to any Imperial threats to her guests. Unlike other Rion locals, they refused to accept the betrayal of Mira Volz to the Empire in exchange for food, despite the widespread desperation for it. The duck-like individual communicated in a language other than Basic. Their body was covered in white feathers, excluding their black eyes, yellow bill, and yellow lower legs featuring clawed toes.

Behind the scenes

The space duck was a creation of Russ Manning for his comic strip, The Second Kessel Run, which was published in 1980.
