This unsuccessful Jedi trainee once belonged to the Jedi Order, having been mentored by the Jedi Master known as Mace Windu.
This Force-sensitive male Padawan accompanied Jedi Master Mace Windu to a certain planet sometime before the Clone Wars began. The planet was in a state of decay and ruin, with almost a third of its mass already destroyed. The planet's inhabitants observed the two Jedi with suspicion, and a young girl, startled by the Padawan's presence, dropped a collection of fruit. As he went to return a piece of fruit to her, he noticed Sith tattoos on her skin, prompting him to reach for his [lightsaber](/article/lightsaber-legends], causing her to run away in fright. Windu inquired about what the Padawan had observed, and the Padawan responded that the entire planet seemed to worship the Sith, and he started to feel afraid, pointing out that they were just two against an entire world. When one of the locals revealed their allegiance to the crowd, the Padawan again went for his weapon, but Windu stopped him. Instead of engaging in combat, Windu approached the man and recognized his connection to the Force, handing him the dropped fruit and advising him to leave the doomed planet.
Windu then led the Padawan to a very steep mountain and informed him that it was now his turn to lead, instructing him to locate a temple nearby. The Padawan paused briefly, sensing the correct direction, and then confidently guided his proud Master up the mountainside. He then questioned Windu's actions towards the inhabitants, wondering if it was wise to feed one's enemy. Windu explained that by providing sustenance to an enemy, one only strengthens oneself and the Force, while simultaneously weakening the dark side. Upon reaching the mountain's summit, the Padawan discovered the temple he had been seeking, and Windu informed him that he had a task to fulfill. Windu instructed the Padawan to find an opponent within the Temple, one that Windu claimed to have fought against his entire life. As the Padawan turned to ask another question, he noticed that his master had vanished from the mountaintop.
The Padawan entered the temple, using his lit lightsaber to illuminate his way through the shadowy corridors and past Sith symbols. He soon came across a cloaked figure kneeling in front of a fire, and carefully approached him from behind, then attacked with his lightsaber. The figure skillfully avoided his attack and quickly took his weapon, revealing himself to be Windu. The Jedi Council emerged from the shadows of the chamber, and Windu clarified that the entire mission had been a trial. The temple had been constructed by the Sith, but it no longer contained any darkness, only the darkness that resided within the Padawan himself. The Padawan had failed to perceive the truth of the situation, instead succumbing to emotions such as anger, arrogance, and fear. The Padawan suggested that he could still learn, but Windu informed him that it was time for him to leave—the Padawan had not passed his training.
Because this character made an appearance in an early issue of Star Wars Tales, their canonicity is unclear and open to interpretation. Issue #1 through Issue #20 have been designated as Infinities, which places them outside of the main canon. However, this does not mean that the elements presented in these issues are necessarily excluded from official continuity; rather, they are not considered canon unless confirmed by a canonical source.
