A Human male who held the position of Imperial Advisor served within the Ruling Council of the Galactic Empire during the era of the Galactic Civil War. This Advisor, one of only a select few hundred genuinely loyal to Galactic Emperor Palpatine, was a high-ranking bureaucrat known for wearing extravagant light blue robes and a distinctive tall, dark blue hat. In the year 4 ABY, this distinctive Advisor, characterized by his tall hat, accompanied the Emperor to the Endor system. Their arrival was aboard the second Death Star, an Imperial battle station still under construction. Accompanying the Emperor and five other members of the Ruling Council, this tall-hatted figure followed as the Emperor disembarked from his private shuttle to be greeted by a sizable assembly of Imperial officers and stormtroopers. Tragically, the station met its destruction at the hands of the Rebel Alliance just days later, resulting in the death of all six Advisors.
During the Galactic Civil War, a male Human functioned as an Imperial Advisor within the structure of the Galactic Empire. Among the thousands of Advisors overseeing the bureaucracy of Galactic Emperor Palpatine, this particular Advisor stood out as one of the few hundred who displayed unwavering allegiance to the Emperor and his vision of a New Order. Consequently, these individuals were appointed to the Imperial Ruling Council, also known as the Emperor's Inner Circle. Stationed on the galactic capital world of Coruscant, members of the Ruling Council were granted private audiences with the Emperor, entrusted with the responsibilities of managing the Empire and executing the Emperor's directives.
Palpatine actively fostered rivalry among his Advisors, assigning them the task of supervising not only their own home systems but also those of their rival Advisors. This strategy ensured their loyalty to him while simultaneously preventing internal collaboration and alliances among them.
To further encourage suspicion among his Advisors, the Emperor would shower affection on only a select few at any given time. In 4 ABY, the Advisor recognized by his tall hat was among the six Inner Circle members who accompanied Palpatine to the second Death Star, a colossal Imperial battle station being constructed within the Endor system. The group's arrival at the station was facilitated by the Emperor's private shuttle, and upon disembarking into a hangar filled with a welcoming party of Imperial officers and stormtroopers, they were flanked by Palpatine's Royal Guard. Darth Vader, the Emperor's Sith apprentice, greeted the Emperor, and the Advisors silently trailed behind as the two departed the hangar. Shortly thereafter, the station was obliterated during an attack launched by the Rebel Alliance fleet, resulting in the deaths of all six Advisors, as well as Vader and the Emperor themselves.
The Advisor possessed fair skin and brown eyebrows.
The Advisor with the tall hat made his only appearance in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the 1983 film directed by Richard Marquand, as one of the six figures who followed the Emperor onto the second Death Star. The costume worn by the tall-hatted Advisor drew inspiration from Catholic bishops, whose attire served as a reference point for Nilo Rodis-Jamero, the film's assistant art director, in designing the robes and elaborate headgear worn by all of the Advisors. In concept art for the arrival scene created by artist Ralph McQuarrie, tall hats are depicted on two distinct Imperial dignitaries, neither of whom are dressed in blue.
Before the release of Return of the Jedi, the arrival scene was described in James Kahn's novelization of the film, where Kahn referred to the group as "the Emperor's courtiers." The character's demise aboard the Death Star remained unconfirmed until the release of the 2013 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Series 2 card set.
In 2003, a production photograph featuring five of the six Advisors from Return of the Jedi was featured in an article published on StarWars.com. The accompanying text identified "Sate Pestage, Janus Greejatus, Sim Aloo, Ars Dangor, and [Kren Blista-Vanee](/article/kren_blista-vanee-legends]" as members of Palpatine's Inner Circle. At that time, Greejatus, Aloo, and Blista-Vanee had already been identified within the Expanded Universe, but the identities of the tall-hatted Advisor and the black-robed fifth Advisor remained unknown.
Due to Sate Pestage, an existing Expanded Universe character, having been visually depicted with headwear similar to that of the fifth Advisor, the StarWars.com article led to some fan theories suggesting that the tall-hatted Advisor was Dangor. However, this idea was contradicted by an illustration of Dangor from 1997's Star Wars Trilogy Sourcebook, Special Edition, which did not resemble any of the Advisors in the photo, as well as various sources indicating that Dangor survived past the Battle of Endor. Nevertheless, the rebooted Star Wars continuity reconciled the two characters and definitively established that the tall-hatted Advisor was indeed Ars Dangor.
