A vessel transporting refugees originating from the Mandalorian Wars, a war fought between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian warrior society, suffered a catastrophic crash on the surface of the planet known as Makeb. Due to the inability to leave Makeb's peculiar atmosphere, the refugees, which included several affluent entrepreneurs, established a colony on the world.
