Unidentified talking tree species

A sapient race of trees that could talk existed on Endor's wooded moon, and they were classified as a distinct species.

Appearance and biology

These animate trees, a unique species, were not only sentient but also possessed the power of speech. Similar to typical trees, they established roots in the soil and extended their leaf-covered branches skyward, reaching heights exceeding two meters. However, unlike ordinary trees, these talking trees could skillfully manipulate their branches, using them to grasp and utilize tools. Each member of this species featured two large, teardrop-shaped eyes and a sizable mouth positioned on one side of their trunk. A lengthy, red tongue resided within the mouth, enabling them to articulate words clearly. The eyes were equipped with lids that blinked occasionally. The bark and eyes of some talking trees were [brown](/article/color-legends], while their leaves were green. When their eyes and mouth were closed, they could easily be mistaken for ordinary trees.

Society and culture

The talking trees would often close their eyes and mouth, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their arboreal environment. They demonstrated proficiency in at least one language spoken on Endor's Forest Moon.

History

An individual from this species resided on the Forest Moon of Endor, having taken root near the Ewok settlement called Bright Tree Village by 3 ABY. This talking tree maintained amicable relations with its Ewok neighbors. In that year, Chief Chirpa tasked his daughter, Princess Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka, with organizing a celebration for a visiting dignitary named Prince Delby. To aid Kintaka with the preparations, the Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick guided the bordok Baga through the forest, distributing posters – large leaves inscribed with details about the event – from Baga's saddlebags. Warrick attached one of these announcements to the face of the talking tree residing nearby. With its eyes and mouth shut, the sentient being resembled a common tree. The talking tree reacted, removed the poster, and expressed enthusiasm for the party invitation.
