Uridia existed as a desolate moon that revolved around the solitary gas giant present within the Uridia system.
During the era of the Galactic Republic, extensive strip-mining operations targeted the moon's surface to extract uridium. However, a massive explosion at a mining site obliterated approximately thirty percent of the moon's physical structure, an event that occurred about 32 years prior to the Battle of Hoth. Eventually, the moon was left unoccupied.
Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the moon was rediscovered. The Empire intended to utilize Andoan mineral-fish for the purpose of extracting the unstable uridium. To safeguard the laboratory facility, the Empire established a defensive perimeter around the moon, consisting of a network of sixteen DTX detector satellites. This endeavor was designated as the Ando Project.
