Droids for cleaning, also known as janitor droids or utility droids, preceded the astromech droids that were in use around the time of the Jedi Civil War. These diminutive droids were extremely common during their peak period. Almost all of them had a height under one meter. For locomotion, they were furnished with either wheeled legs or compact repulsorlift generators.

Wuher tasked a couple of rehab droids with the job of cleaning the scorch on the exterior of the cantina that resulted from the demise of Codeq Santhananan.

The designation "utility droid" encompassed a wide array of models, exhibiting substantial variations in both their physical form and their functions. Some, notably those produced by Duwani Mechanicals, were occasionally labeled as "astromech droids." Certain models were deployed for sophisticated applied physics tasks, including starship maintenance, astrogation, and even computer slicing and programming. Others were responsible for more mundane activities, such as janitorial services and the removal of waste.
