Biography

During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Corporal Vandolay, a Human, served on the Super Star Destroyer Executor, which acted as the flagship for the Dark Lord Darth Vader. His service extended until at least 3 ABY. While on the Executor, Vandolay's duties included being the Imperial Security Bureau attaché and acting as a political liaison for the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order. This organization aimed to bolster Emperor Palpatine's New Order through the cultural advancement of the Galactic Empire's population. Vandolay also functioned as the Detention Officer on the Executor, taking charge of all prisoner movements on the warship. In 3 ABY, Vandolay occupied a position within the command bridge of the Executor during the Super Star Destroyer's endeavor to seize the freighter Millennium Falcon. The vessel carried Rebel fugitives Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Lando Calrissian, and the pursuit occurred after its departure from Cloud City on the Imperial-occupied planet Bespin. Vandolay, along with his fellow crew members, acted upon Admiral Firmus Piett's command to prepare the battleship's tractor beam in an attempt to capture the Millennium Falcon. However, at the last minute, the Millennium Falcon executed a sudden escape into hyperspace.

Personality and traits

Vandolay had fair skin along with brown hair. He was a strong advocate for the Emperor's New Order.

Equipment

Vandolay wore a black Imperial Navy crewman uniform while on duty aboard the Executor.

Behind the scenes

Vandolay made his initial appearance, albeit unnamed, in the 1980 motion picture Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. The actor who portrayed Vandolay was first shown as part of the bridge crew on the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger as it chased the Millennium Falcon in the Anoat system. However, it has not been canonically confirmed that this character is Vandolay. The actor reappears towards the movie's conclusion in recycled footage from the Avenger scene as the Executor attempts to capture the Millennium Falcon above Bespin. In this scene, only the back of the character's head is visible.

The character of Vandolay was later given a name and a concise backstory on the "Corporal Vandolay" card for the 1997 Dagobah Limited expansion pack of Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game. This card formally established Vandolay as the character seen in the reused Executor footage. It's worth noting that the card used a still image of the character from the Avenger's bridge as Vandolay's official image.
