The liberation movement known as the White Suns, sometimes referred to as Whitesuns, operated on the planet Tatooine in 28 BBY and focused on freeing slaves. Sabé, the ex-handmaiden, had been residing in Mos Espa for six weeks as part of a disguise to assist in the emancipation of slaves, but she belatedly discovered the existence of this movement. By then, they were suspicious of her because she had been associating with local outlaws. While investigating, Sabé noticed a white sun symbol painted on the former residence of Shmi Skywalker, leading her to suspect a connection to the organization.
Beru Whitesun Lars belonged to this group, as did Shmi, a former slave who developed a deprogrammer to disable the control chips implanted in enslaved individuals.
