Wortan

The city was bisected in its northern reaches by the flow of the Aro River. Conversely, the southern region showcased towering structures constructed from Ferrocrete, clustered in several blocks around the city's central hub. This central area was strategically positioned against the canyon's southern wall, leveraging its shade. Wortan extended its reach into the canyon wall through a network of both naturally occurring and artificially constructed tunnels, with many linked to the external buildings via bridge systems.

A significant portion of Wortan suffered devastation during the Mandalorian Wars. The southernmost district, known as Banol, was transformed into a perilous zone subsequently referred to as Banol's Maze, characterized by a complex web of collapsed tunnels and ruined commercial establishments.

During the era of the Mandalorian Wars, the Mandalorians seized control of Wortan, utilizing it as their strategic command center. The city became a battleground for numerous conflicts, enduring substantial damage due to the intense combat. When the Republic forces launched an offensive to expel the Mandalorians from Iridonia, they encountered staunch opposition, as the Mandalorians strategically retreated into the city's subterranean sectors. A considerable number of these underground blocks were obliterated before the Republic successfully reclaimed Wortan.

By the time of the Jedi Civil War, Wortan's population had dwindled to less than one-third of its pre-war numbers. Numerous isolated underground sections remained disconnected from the main city, and the outer and subterranean areas were primarily inhabited by elements of the criminal underworld. Among these criminals were swoop gangs, many of whom had recruited former Mandalorians into their ranks.
