Wud Mortull was a Human male Padawan under the guidance of Jedi Master Pernicar. He participated in the New Sith Wars serving alongside Pernicar. However, he disappeared at some point during the conflict. Eight years later, Mortull resurfaced, now affiliated with the Brotherhood of Darkness.
As a Force-sensitive Human male, Wud Mortull received training from the Jedi Order to harness the Force. He achieved the rank of Padawan and crafted a green lightsaber in 1020 BBY. Under the mentorship of Jedi Master Pernicar, Mortull fought with his master in the New Sith Wars until his vanishing in 1018 BBY. During this period, Mortull yielded to the allure of the dark side of the Force and defected to the Brotherhood of Darkness, the Sith organization led by the former Jedi Master Skere Kaan.
Eight years onward, during a skirmish on Ruusan, Mortull joined the Brotherhood's forces as the Sith clashed with the Jedi Order's Army of Light. Noticing his former Jedi Master in the midst of battle, fresh from slaying three Sith soldiers, Mortull hailed Pernicar. Upon being spotted, Mortull rushed towards him, arms outstretched and a broad smile, as if longing for his old teacher after their long separation. Initially delighted to see his apprentice, whom he presumed to be a friend, Pernicar was momentarily taken aback when Mortull revealed his red lightsaber. Pernicar wondered what could have driven Mortull to forsake the green-bladed weapon he had prized upon first completing it. Before Mortull could strike his former master, Pernicar killed the man who, even in death, wore the friendly smile of a friend. After the battle's conclusion, Pernicar requested his armorer to analyze Mortull's poorly constructed weapon, discovering that its core contained a synthetic lightsaber crystal, similar to most of the weapons wielded by the Sith members of the Brotherhood.
Master Pernicar tells the story of Wud Mortull when he discusses the distinctions between Jedi and Sith lightsabers. The story is featured in Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force.
