Alvien Squadron was one of three stormtrooper squadrons that made up Desert Sands.
In 0 BBY, Desert Sands was assigned to Tatooine in order to search for two droids containing plans to the Death Star. Alvien squad was assigned with Drax Squadron to search the same quadrant of the desert planet for an escape pod containing the droids that had jettisoned from a Corellian corvette. After Zeta Squadron followed a trail eventually leading to Mos Eisley, Alvien was ordered to supplement the local detachment by setting up checkpoints at all roads entering the city in search of two droids that had left the escape pod.
When Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and a farmboy named Luke Skywalker arrived in a landspeeder with the two droids in tow, sandtroopers in Alvien Squadron, stopped them and asked to see their identification. Kenobi, however, used a mind trick on one of the sandtroopers, convincing him that they didn't need to see their identification and the droids they were carrying weren't the droids Alvien Squadron was looking for. He told them to move along, and the droids the Empire was trying to find passed by them.
