The Ascension Well was a hole in the rocky terrain of the planet Ridlay. During the planet's total eclipses every fifty years, beings that Ridlay's inhabitants believed to be spirits rose from the Ascension Well. As such, the eclipse was an occasion celebrated as combining the lands of the living and the dead, with the Ascension Well decorated with memorials to the deceased. In an eclipse during the Clone Wars, however, the supposed ghosts attacked Ridlay's inhabitants, driving them from their homes. After Jedi Master Mace Windu arrived on Ridlay to investigate the lack of communications, he visited the Ascension Well with several clone troopers and a local guide, Agon. Windu determined that the beings were alive and had conflicted minds, and the group was subsequently confronted by Count Dooku of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, who rose from the Ascension Well on the top of a Multi-Troop Transport.
