Boonta Eve, which is also known as Boonta's Eve, stood as one of the three holidays established to remember when the Hutts achieved victory over both the Parliament of Moralan and Xim the Despot during the Third Battle of Vontor. The holiday took its name from Boonta the Hutt.
It was said that Boonta's Eve originated from the speech given by Boonta the Hutt to his family, loyal servants, and favored slaves on the evening before the Third Battle of Vontor. Boonta declared that he would rather die than be ruled by Humans such as Xim the Despot. The Hutts emerged victorious in the battle that followed, and the anniversary of Boonta's speech became a celebrated Hutt holiday. During this time, slaves would renew their vows of obedience, and in return, their masters would reward them with a feast and gifts.
The holiday celebrations took place on various planets where the Hutts held power, including Ko Vari, Arami, and Tatooine. The festivities included the organization of various racing sports, such as Podracing. The Hutts claimed that this tradition stemmed from the practice of forcing Tionese prisoners, captured at Vontor, to race while the Hutts placed bets on the outcomes. The slowest participants in each race were executed until only one survivor remained, who was then declared the winner.
On Tatooine, the festival was primarily celebrated in areas of Mos Espa, most notably with the Boonta Eve Classic. The night of the event sometimes attracted criminals associated with Lady Valarian, who would steal from the elderly and assault those who dared to venture outside. These gangs, operating from outside the town, were sometimes referred to as "the Boonta Eve bandits".
