The morning afterward, blackguards left a message on a temple in Pijal's capital city, asking the public whether their act of dissent was enough for them not to be forgotten. Royal guard captain Deren later gave a copy of the holographic recording of the the chemical dispersion to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, while the Jedi were investigating the recent upheavals in the Pijal system.
In 40 BBY, the Inner Rim planet Pijal's serving lord regent Rael Averross and the Czerka Corporation collaborated on the Governance Treaty initiative—which would reorganize the reigning Pijali monarchy into a relatively powerless constitutional monarchy and cede power to a representative Assembly—by using the results of a Pijal system census to survey the native population. However, the Pijali Princess Fanry believed that Czerka had been exploiting her constituents by unfairly enslaving them and did not wish to sign the treaty upon her crowning, hoping to retain her power as future queen. Averross, meanwhile, felt that the Governance Treaty would economically benefit Pijal if the Assembly opened the Pijal Hyperspace Corridor hyperspace route in conjunction with the Galactic Republic.
Hoping to stall the treaty's adoption, Fanry began covertly leading a contingent of Pijali blackguard soldiers to stir unrest throughout the Pijal system, assisted by her royal guard captain Deren. As one of these incidents, the blackguards seeded the atmosphere of Pijal's moon with a harmless chemical. As a result, the moon's appearance changed from golden-and-green in color to crimson red, panicking citizens who watched it rise in the evening.
On the morning after the chemical dispersion, the blackguards scrawled a painted message on a temple in Pijal's capital city, asking the public whether their act of dissent was enough for them not to be forgotten. The vandalism was blamed on the Opposition—a political performance troupe known for protesting the Governance Treaty—and Deren kept a holographic recording of the event stored.
Some days later, Deren gave the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the recording of the chemical's usage while they were on Pijal attempting to locate the Opposition and investigating the recent upheavals in the system. Eventually, following Fanry's unsuccessful attempt to crown herself queen during her violent coronation, the Opposition was cleared of blame for the chemical usage and other incidents.
The dispersion appeared in a hologram in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel written by Claudia Gray.
