Chip Hinnenberg

Chip Hinnenberg is a quality assurance tested and playtester for several Star Wars LucasArts video games.

For Star Wars: Rebel Assault the company's first "multimedia CD-ROM" game, he did playtesting, first as lead, and worked closely with Brett Tosti; he used a VCR to record scenes and report bugs to the programmers. One of his suggestions concerned the realism of the first level "Flight Training", where the T-16 skyhopper moved only left-to-right and lacked sense of flying. His suggestions added realism and "feeling that 'tug'". For the final level #15 "Death Star Trench", he criticized the targeting system, which was too slow and had the form of a grid and descending target; he designed the final form with Vincent Lee after experimenting with several colors and patterns for some hours.

As a technical specialist, he was also a key tester for Rebel Assault and other gamers, focusing on hardware compatibility. Using a collection of different sound cards and ten different CD-ROM drives, he was responsible for testing a combination of settings (IRQ and DMA channels and HEX addresses) and that they performed well with the later driver versions.

He is credited as a quality assurance supervisor for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He is also credited as a writer for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron as well as Senior Compatibility Technician, Technical writing for the instruction manual for Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II.
