Brett Tosti

Biography

A "stickler for good gameplay", Tosti has been an avid gamer since the days of Pong. He worked since 1993 for LucasArts in game testing. Brett also was the leader tester for Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and worked on production and testing on Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Brett also was a tester on Star Wars: X-Wing and its sequel Star Wars: TIE Fighter.

Tosti also worked on quality assurance on Star Wars: Rebel Assault as lead tester, cooperating with Vincent Lee. Tosti started testing the game when it was 75% complete; at that point, the TIE Fighters would do damage if the player failed to destroy them, and while they were shooting lasers around, it was only part of the scenery artwork; it was his and his fellow Q/A testers's suggestion to make the lasers do damage to the player. Vince Lee trusted Tosti's gaming experience and provided to him a software patch to decide and adjust the difficulty of some elements (like laser damage or ease to hit some targets) according to the three difficulty level of the game, something that took a day's work. It was Tosti who suggested to the ability to choose frame rate of the game play, as it was too fast on some machines.

Tosti also came up with the concept for Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire.

He was part of the crew on the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. When he was 30 years old he was the project coordinator, level designer, and lead tester on Star Wars: Dark Forces, joining the team from the earliest days. His team of game testers offered ideas that contributed to the challenge and playability of the game, such as the addition of extra lives, and the placement and scripting of enemies in the game map. Later he was the project manager, production manager, and level designer on Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Brett also worked as a producer on Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

Another part of Star Wars he worked on was the first three Rogue Squadron installments, for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the N64 he was the project leader and production manager and for the sequel Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Brett was the producer. Brett also was a producer on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. Brett was the project leader on Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo. Brett was also the project leader and production manager on Star Wars: Episode I Racer. Brett also was the production manager on Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.
