The Codian Moon orbited the planet Codia I in the Mid Rim Territories. It featured forests, and wood-moss grew there. At some point, herds of the creatures known as reeks were transplanted to the Codian Moon from their homeworld, Ylesia. On the Codian Moon, ranchers eventually came to breed the reeks as aggressive combat beasts to be exported into the wider galaxy.
The Codian Moon was a terrestrial moon of the planet Codia I, located in the Mid Rim Territories' Codia system within grid square H-15 of the Standard Galactic Grid. Its surface featured forests and was covered with moss, specifically including wood-moss, which grew there in lesser quantities than on the Outer Rim Territories planet Ylesia. The moon was illuminated by starlight.
Many of the small, highly territorial herds of the herbivorous grassland creatures known as reeks were transplanted to the Codian Moon from their homeworld, Ylesia. On the Codian Moon, ranchers originally bred reeks for meat. Due to the relative scarcity of wood-moss on the moon, the reeks there eventually became more territorially aggressive than their Ylesian relatives. At some point, the ranchers on the Codian Moon discovered that the reeks could be forced into becoming carnivorous, and they also learned of the high demand in the wider galaxy for aggressive creatures. Those discoveries eventually led to the reeks being exported across the galaxy. Around 0 BBY, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi briefly described the Codian Moon in his journals.
The Codian Moon was first mentioned in the mobile app Star Wars: Force Collection, which was released on September 4, 2013. Although its release predates the reset of the Star Wars canon on April 25, 2014 and the rebranding of the former Expanded Universe continuity as Star Wars Legends, Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee later confirmed that the game was kept updated to fit with the current canon.
The moon originated in Star Wars Legends, where it was first mentioned in the 2002 reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary, authored by David West Reynolds. The second issue of the Star Wars Jedi Master Magazine, published on January 19, 2016, misspelled the moon's name as the "Coodian moon."
